Tech Data posts jump in 3Q net, tops expectations-Tops

Tech Data Corp. posted a 17 percent jump third-quarter earnings Monday, pointing to "solid demand for technology products in both the Americas and Europe."
The company, which distributes information technology equipment, booked net income of $50.5 million, or $1.07 per share, for the three months that ended Oct. 31. That's up from $43.1 million, or 84 cents per share, in the same quarter a year ago.
Revenue climbed 9.2 percent to $6.16 billion from $5.64 billion.
The results topped expectations from Wall Street analysts, who had projected earnings of 95 cents per share on revenue of $5.79 billion, according to Thomson Reuters.
"Looking ahead to the fourth quarter, we expect solid demand trends to continue and sales could exceed historical seasonal patterns," Tech Data CEO Robert M. Dutkowsky said in a statement.
The company's stock rose $1.88, or 4.3 percent, to $45.89 in afternoon trading

Apple iPad Tops Samsung Galaxy Tab In First Month Sales-Tops

Since it’s arrival to our stores, the Apple iPad has proved itself worthy, not just with a fantastic appearance and easy portability but features to match. But now with the offering of the Samsung Galaxy Tablet are customers more than likely to steer towards this. Looking at first monthly sales figures this should be more than enough to convince us!

On a recent look into figures sourced from The Korea Herald, it clearly shows a definite trend in people buying the iPad compared to the Galaxy Tab. AppleInsider reported that in less than a month after launch date, Apple‘s device sold a huge one million just in America, in relation to Samsung’s Galaxy Tab selling 600,000 worldwide in one month.
In Samsung’s defence, on releasing their offering, consumers had the added benefit of it being available on four of the biggest wireless carriers such as Verizon and AT&T, using the first Android mobile OS, and it had already broken the ice in Italy and then America. It is safe to say that up until now, Samsung has been able to offer their customers the tablet form without delay, compared to that of the iPad where back in April/May time, Apple were finding it difficult to keep up with increasing demand for the device. Good news, that the tablet is so popular, not so good for Apple’s reputation.
With Christmas clearly on the horizon now, and news of retailers such as TJ Maxx and Marshall’s selling the iPad for a mere $399, will sales figures rocket above its counterparts?
Let us know what you think? Are you a Apple or Samsung fan? To find out more head on over to AppleInsider.

S'pore tops in office rental growth -Tops

OFFICE landlords here have much to cheer about after rises in third-quarter Grade A rents outshone gains in other Asia-Pacific business centres.
Singapore, along with Beijing, topped the table, according to a survey by property consultancy Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL).
Both recorded quarterly net effective rental growth of 10.9 per cent in local currency terms. This excludes outgoings such as maintenance fees and property taxes and aims to reflect the net rental income earned by property investors.
Gross effective rent measures the total occupancy costs paid by tenants.
Singapore was ranked fourth out of 26 Asia-Pacific cities in terms of net effective rent, with landlords getting an average of US$671 (S$870) per sq m a year, JLL said.
This level is behind those of Hong Kong, Tokyo and Mumbai, but above those of other regional business centres such as Ho Chi Minh City, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok, which rank 6th, 21st and 22nd respectively.
